We gave our bodies a rest today, so left the Nordic Walking poles behind and headed off for some different scenery and sights. Bregenz which is the capital city of Vorarlberg, and the harbour town of Lindau which lays across the water of Lake Constance and the German border were our destinations.
We left our mountain 'home' and drove down the wider and flatter (but no less picturesque) Bregenzerwald valley to Bregenz. Having parked the vehicles we made our way along the beautiful and flowerfilled foreshore to the new and sparkling harbour where an old style ferry boat waited to take us for a smooth 20 minute journey over the water and the international border to Germany.
Here in Lindau we all had time to do our own exploring of quaint lane ways, browsing in arcades or shops, dining at outdoor terrace restaurants or simply sitting and watching the harbourside activity of yachts, boats and ferries coming and going.
It was a gorgeously warm and sunny day by Lake Constance and was a nice change of pace and scenery. Looking forward to doing Nordic Walking again tomorrow - especially as we will be country hopping through three countries on foot!
